The Milk Index
Monday Update..Well Walgreens is the cheapest Milk around. But since I only put milk in my coffee I thought I would try another test of the index.
There is the obvious ironic connection..
I take a drug called Tamoxifen everyday.
At Castellon it costs me $26.00
at Walgreens it is $77.00
This drug is one of the largest selling drugs in the world. It may mean the difference between Life and Death for me.
If you are uninsured, as I and 48 million other Americans are. This cost is out of pocket.
Chances are 1 in 8 women will develop Breast Cancer,
It is October be aware.
I guess they are making up for their loss in the milk department.
Sunday Update
Rouses Market on Carrollton
UPDATE
Today I did a price comparison on a Gallon of Milk
Here is a random sampling in the Carrollton area.
There were no prices on the milk but when they asked they said a Gallon was $4.99.
Next was Dollar General
Next I went to Castellon on Oak Street
Finally I ended up at the new Walgreens on Carrollton and Claiborne.
A Gallon of milk was $3.99.
So tell me what does milk cost where you live?

A gallon of milk costs more than a gallon of oil, but do I hear people whining about the greedy dairy industry?
October 5th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
And by oil I mean what y’all refer to as gas that powers automobiles.

We must “get off the udder”

Staples like that always cost more at corner groceries and pharmacies. What’s it cost at Rouse’s?
Maitri, I’m trying really hard to stay away from the emissions angle here.

Castellon’s has milk??? How is it that I’ve missed that??
Walgreens has always had the cheapest milk in town, second only to Sam’s, maybe.

3.19 for a half gallon of organic milk at Whole Foods, up from 2.99.

I’m glad to see that Walgreens is bringing an important commodity such as milk to the Northwest Carrollton Area at a lower cost than other retailers in the area.

Me too, now if they could install some bike racks:}
October 6th, 2007 at 11:50 pm
3.79 at rouses on vets yesterday.

I am sure since the price at Walgreens seems to be lower than the others, we will soon see even cheaper milk at the Roberts Market that is going in at that same location. I think it is safe to say that a larger retailer like Wlagreens can afford to have lower prices with lower overhead..the smaller guys charge more cuz they have to make more to stay alive.
Rouse’s really should be cheaper.
BYW: I believe Organic Milk is 2.89 at the Sav a Center.

Here on the Oregon Coast, $1.99 for a half-gallon of skim yesterday at Safeway.

Gallon Walmart brand whole milk at Tchoupitoulas store was $4.29 this afternoon.

Seaside, FL: $4.99/gallon

Ray, read this guy:
A car emits 2.5 times as much greenhouse gases as a cow. Amazing that a cow emits that much and yet gets very little talk in terms of environment impact.
What about total world impact? There are 1.5 billion cows and buffalos (I am assuming that buffalos have similar methane outputs) (source from Eco-Economy using Amazon’s search in book feature) and 532 million cars (same source different page). Using the 2.5 factor, cows emit 112% as much as the cars. This means cows have just as big an impact as cars and maybe even slightly more in terms of global warming. Maybe we should be focusing on making our cows more efficient rather than our cars.
There was a similar article in Yahoo! News or AP recently about the CO2 emissions from the dairy industry. Sorry I can’t offer more on milk prices - I try not to drink any due to (minor) lactose intolerance.

Indiana
This came from Barts parents
Haven’t meant to ignore your question, but we finally stopped at the local IGA this morning and priced milk. We don’t purchase milk regularly so we were unfamiliar with the price. I’m curious now as to the price at larger stores; e.g., Meijer or Wal-Mart.
1% or 2% milk is $3.99
Whole milk is $4.29

Well, I had to comment on the drug price thing. Before I had insurance, generic Ambien cost me about $13 at Castellon’s. Now that I’m insured, if I fill it at Walgreen’s, my plan’s preferred retailer, I pay around $39 for the same 30 day supply. I wish I’d known that before I filled it.
I called the company administering the pharmacy benefits and asked how this could be so and was told there was absolutely NO WAY that any legitimate pharmacy could charge me so little and that my meds must have been from “some unregulated third world country.” I checked. Made in Michigan.
Castellon’s is cheaper than Walmart (or at least comparable) on almost everything in the store. I’ve always wondered how they manage that as a single, locally owned store.

Lisa when I looked at the Walgreens site the price for Tamoxifen was $177.00, when I called she said it would be $77.00 in I was uninsured.
Now I am totally confused.

This message in from Indiana
Just an addendum to my note from yesterday. When I was at Wal-mart today, I saw they had milk at $2.00 a gallon. This was a special–not the usual price (I think).

Well some like this way, Buy I think you should consider the another side of the toppic too. Thanks
